Often we have this conflict in our teenage lives as to who are our friends and who are not, who should we trust and who we cannot? Who do we hangout with? Why can't I take decisions and why our parents make them for us? Well in the teenage years we often forget how to behave like teens and struggle to be older much faster. Well here is a short play I scripted for all the teens like me who I am sure have faced similar situations in life. Enjoy reading this guys and comment at the end this article.

Scene 1
Simone - … (starts humming to her self… don’t shout its my birthday. we are gonna party like. its my birthday…)
Mom- …Simone..(Softly)..In a normal tone.. Simone.. Again..(She doesn't hear)…SIMONE…
Simone-… What mom?
Mom- come here. come here baba..
Simone- to herself (I'm turning 21 and she still calls me baba.. OH God ..MOMs I tell u)
anyways what happened..tell me quick.. i'm busy.. I got to plan for my birthday.. Got loads of friends to invite.. you know I was thinking of having it at a disc.. Probably.. Poison..no Hawaiian Shack..or Jazz by the Bay.. My friends..will have a blast..What Say Mom
DAD – from behind.. DISCO.. U wanna go to the disco..
MOM- DISCO.. no Baba.. no.. see I thought ..we could have u b’day.. in our bld’g compound.. all the family.. will come..What your granny..will come and do at the disco
Simone-What did u say MOM.. Wait, wait family is coming.. Granny, and that aunt Jane.. with those kids of hers.. my dumb.. nerdy cousins.. bob and Muriel wt.. soda type glasses ..always drowned in their books.. OH MY GOD.. u want them at my party.. and that too in the bldg compound.. and Aunt Dora.. that show off wit her rich fancy jewelry. and clothes.. .. . MOM , DAD..listen.. I hate these people ... I don’t want family involved in my birthday.. I'm turning 21.. the age of my independence… I waited so many years.. for this day don’t spoil it for me.. listen.. I m having a party wit my friends at the disc.. and its not DISCO ... oh and for your info.. I have a name .. don't call me baba.. OH and one more thing..i don’t even want you'll at my party. Also
(Simone storms out)
DAD- This daughter of ours.. 21 years we have struggled and brought her up and she talks to us like this.. it’s all your fault you do everything for her and spoil her ..
MOM- Don’t blame me.. you have spoiled her .. by buying her loads and loads stuff.. Always when u came down.. from the gulf.. u never gave a ear to listen to her problems.. I was all alone and I brought her up..
(Mom and Dad get angry and move out grumbling...)
(Simone is all grumpy.. and annoyed.. she says.. to herself..)
"How can they do this.. to me.. I don’t want this.. u knw I hate my family they are involved in everything I do.. Its not fair.. mom’s always making decisions without asking me .. I WISH I DON’T EVER SEE THEM EVER THE DAY I TURN 21!"

SCENE 2
(Simone gets up .. it’s the day of her birthday.. she goes out of her bed to check where are her parents.. she calls out no one is around… she gets all panicky… and starts dialing her moms cell .. Its says.. the number u trying to call is currently unavailable.
Then she try’s her dad….but no luck.., as much as she hates to .. but she has to do it anyway..she calls her relatives .. But they aren't available either.. now she soon begins to panic..
She then tries her friends.)
1)Rahul..
Simone- Hey Rahul..
Rahul(voice over).. hi.. Simone.. oh its your birthday rite? Happy birthday!
Simone- Yeah thanks.. by the way are you coming for the party at poison tonight?
Rahul- Oh ya ..Simone actually I umm see.. I'm down with fever ya.. I cannot make it ... you have fun..girl.. maybe next year I ll be there for your party got to go now .. taking rest you see ..bye!
Simone- OH OK..(Disappointed Simone says).. u take rest .. will miss u tho.
(Simone then tries to call Tanya..but gets her voice mail..saying she is out of town.. and to leave a message.
She then receives a message from her friend Sid.. wishing her and saying he cant make it for the party..
Simone is almost in tears.. she is so upset and shocked.. she begins to cry.. just then..From behind)
SURPRISE!!!!!
(All yell, all her family members come and start singing the birthday song...
Simone runs and hugs her mom and dad)
Simone: OH MY GOD I thought I had a bad dream.. I thought u all were not there.. some thing that I wished for earlier but I was angry then.. I m glad to have ull back.. even my aunts and uncles and cusins.. and grannie and everyone..
MOM- Simone .. .. I knew Wht you wer goin thru..u r a big girl now.. Friends are always gonna come and I knw ur family is goin to take the backseat..
DAD- Simone.. baba.. u have to remember.. who looked after you wen u were a baby.. wen.. ur muma was wrking it was ur grannie.. and who.. gave u their books so that we wudnt have to waste money.. ur nerdy.. cusins.. bob and Muriel.. and who passed on their fancy clothes..ur cusin Roche.. who helped.. ur dad to go to the gulf ur aunt Dora.. and it was ur aunt dan and jane who helped mom cook and arrange a party on such a short notice.
MOM- u must realize Simone.. u may go any where round the world.. get any job and all kind of friends but remember ur language and emotions ar best understood by your own family.. They have looked after u .. and being with you thru your ups and downs.. Simone.. Don’t ever forget your family.. I must say we wer wrong on our part.. too we should have asked u first what u wanted for your birthday rather than going ahead and deciding ourselves..
Simone: I am so sorry I realized my mistake.. I dint mean too.. I should have discussed things with you. I never value the things u do for me .. And when its all not there I realize and its too late..I'm sorry for hurting you all.
(In the end.. Simone friends show up as well, when her mother tries to convince them how important this day was for Simone .. In the end they all have a 21st Birthday Blast...!!!
With the nerdy cousins and old granny.. her parents and aunts and uncles.. Simone is glad that her 21st birthday is a memorable one.. All thanks to her family.
I hope with this short skit I was able to send across a message most teens face today. It is very important every teen knows how to nurture and grow as individual with the right teen spirit .An attempt that is hopefully inspirational.If you like it please do post inn your comments.
